Ramblings about the Braves by True Braves Fans
I know I’ve said this before, but I think I have people that are really going to blog this time! They’ve both posted already, so scroll down if you missed it.
I’m doing some other “behind-the-scenes” changes as well. I’m working on getting all of the software up-to-date, including the newest methods for facebook and twitter integration. I’m also working on a few coding projects that will make life easier on the bloggers, and as a result, the blogs better for the readers.
The first project is a set of libraries for accessing data from MLB.com using the gameday API. The project has just started, but can be found at http://mlbgamedayapi.peelercoding.com. The next project will utilize the libraries created in the first project to create a set of wordpress plugins that can be utilized by this and any other wordpress blog. It will include shortcodes for easily linking to a page (player, game, team, etc.) on mlb.com, as well as many other features. While the majority of this will not directly affect you, the reader, it will, as I mentioned above, allow for the creation of better, more content-rich blogs.
Okay, lets see if we can get this thing going again. In addition to blogging myself, I am trying to recruit a few other reliable fans to join me. That way it isn’t as much of a chore to keep the site active.
I’ve also added a few things to help integrate the site with facebook. You can login to the site using facebook connect, and there is also an application on facebook that you can become a fan of and you’ll get wall posts whenever there is a new post on here.
Well, we lost one today. Am I the only one who feels that this is the last year for Tommy Glavine, Smoltzie, and Greg Maddux? Smoltz looks like his arm has finally had it and he’s breaking down. Glavine is simply unable to locate like he once could, and since he’s the penultimate ”nibbler”, a pitcher who lives on the outside of the plate, he’s dead in the water. Maddux, well, he could probably pitch forever because he’s more intelligent than pretty much every player, but it just feels like the end. And wouldn’t it be great when they all 3 are first ballot guys in 5 years and they all entered the Hall as Braves?
Does Randy Johnson always seem like he’s lights out against the Braves? In his last 3 games vs. the Braves he’s given up 1 run, and pitched a perfect game.. Not to mention he has the single best phallic-symbol moniker of all-time.
I also seem to remember Brandon Webb pitching incredibly versus Atlanta last year. This does not bode well for tomorrow, when I’ll be at the game, because Jair Jurrjens run support has been anemic, and facing Webb is going to make this a long day me thinks.
Anyway, enough of this gibberish. See you tomorrow at the Memorial Day festivities!
I installed a new wordpress plugin that allows us to easily post box scores when we blog about a specific game. The linescore plugin was created by the same people that made the standings plugin that you can find on the right side of the page. The box score above is from the first game of tonight’s double header.
In keeping with patrick’s introductory post, here comes another. My name is Luke and I was born a Braves fan, like everyone who would ever come to a blog like this. My parents have been Braves fans since the team came to Atlanta in the 60′s.
As an aside, my least favorite Brave of all-time is Jeff Blauser, that is all. He made Karl Malone look like Reggie Jackson.
Also, a note as an admin, if you call yourself a Braves fan but state that you are not a fan of Chipper Jones, you’ll be perma-banned… ok, I kid, but I’ll be upset.
Sorry I haven’t made a post recently. Life is pretty hectic because I am in the process of buying a house. Once things settle down I will be back and blogging more.
I also haven’t found that much to blog about lately. I think its a waste of time to just rehash the news you can read anywhere else, so I only like to write if I have a thought on something, or want to give my take on something that happened in a game or that was on the news.
On that note, until things settle down here, anyone interested in possibly being a guest blogger? If so shoot me an email and we will discuss it.
Hello to all my readers out there, I apologize for the lack of updates in the past few days. I really don’t have much to talk about in depth this time either but I did want to mention a few things.
First I want to make sure everyone knows about my other web page, The Braves Board. The news section on the front page is being kept up to date now. All we need now is members to get the discussion boards going.
Second, I just want to give me thoughts on trading John Thomson. I am really split on this issue. Jorge Sosa has had a bad spring, but if he can shape up, he is too valuable (given his salary) to give up. On the same note, Thomson has shown to be a solid starter as well. Thomson seems like he would wasted in the bullpen, but given the fact he could add some velocity to his fastball, he actually might fit well into the closers roll. And, if we did trade one of them, it really seems like it would be Thomson, and I don’t think the closers that have been mentioned are a good return. The other rumor, Craig Wilson, isn’t a bad trade, but do we need him? I would rather trade for him than have Brian Jordan the backup first baseman, but I think overall I would rather keep Thomson and use James Jurries.
Finally, I got a call today from someone in the Braves front office. I wasn’t home, and wasn’t able to get in touch with her after I got the message. I am assuming that they are going to want me to come join the team, as a coach obviously, since my playing days are over. While I will continue to update this blog, I just want you to know that the team comes first.
Obviously I don’t really think they are calling me to join the team. I also doubt they are calling in relation to either of my web pages. I honestly am not sure why they are calling. I don’t think I have entered any contests and the last I checked they don’t just randomly give away season tickets. So, I will let you all know once I find out exactly what its all about, but until them I am really anxious to find out, I just hope I can sleep tonight!
Oh yea, one more thing. If you have any links that you would like me to put over on the right let me know. It doesn’t matter what they are, as long as they fit in one of the categories. All I ask is that you link both of my sites (I will add your link to my other site as well) from the page you ask me to link too (provided you have control over the links. If you don’t, feel free to recommend the page still, I’ll still add it) If you want to suggest one, you can either post a comment to any of my posts or email. My contact info is on the right. Feel free to IM me as well, but I must warn you I have a horrible short term memory and I am easily distracted, so there is a good chance it might never get done if that is the only way you contact me.
Welcome to The Braves Blog. This is my home on the web for talking about the Braves. Some of my posts will be informative, some will be venting about what I think was a bad choice in a game, or bad move with a player. I will talk about the games, I will talk about things that pleased me. I will talk about all sorts of things, but in the end, they will all relate to baseball, and usually the Braves.
Keep an eye out over the next few days as I add more links and more posts.
